  • @lillymunster so true. it's sad when a somewhat anarchistic group becomes your beacon of hope. :(
    by M.I.A. 7/20/2011 3:26:53 AM

  • @M.I.A. very. Both have bad reputations, have some some things I don't agree with but have been major moving forces for awareness and change.
    by lillymunster 7/20/2011 3:30:51 AM

  • @RadioGuy Yeah. Pls. don't underestimate China's dream of dynastic empire. No country cares less about human life and dignity than the Chinese. They are starting to make their move, too...
    by M.I.A. 7/20/2011 3:31:04 AM

  • @M.I.A. Interesting times....
    by RadioGuy 7/20/2011 3:33:29 AM

  • umm...I think I'm stuck
    by smoss 7/20/2011 3:34:10 AM

  • @RadioGuy Yup! I'd rather live in the Renaissance type of interesting times. lol
    by M.I.A. 7/20/2011 3:34:30 AM

  • nope, just asleep...sorry :-)
    by smoss 7/20/2011 3:35:30 AM

  • @M.I.A. plague, inquisitions, the Renaissance is highly over-rated. :-)
    by lillymunster 7/20/2011 3:36:05 AM

  • @lillymunster but, but....Alchemy! I could be blissfully unaware of poisoning myself as I try to turn lead into gold! oh, wait...I could go to work for Monsanto.... bwa ha ha
    by M.I.A. 7/20/2011 3:39:29 AM

  • @M.I.A. I hear TEPCO has an Alchemy apprentice program..
    by lillymunster 7/20/2011 3:42:44 AM

  • @lillymunster I thought that was a sorcerer's apprentice program. You know- wave your wand and everything is hunky dory.
    by M.I.A. 7/20/2011 3:48:10 AM

  • LOL, off someone's twitter profile "Wake up and smell the plutonium!"
    by lillymunster 7/20/2011 3:58:37 AM

  • off to sleep, laters!

  • New video from Arnie: fairewinds.com
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 5:08:29 AM

  • Gunderson says, " Don't limit the information, limit the radiation."
by Ralph Unger 7/20/2011 5:38:28 AM

  • @Ralph, good advice, eh?
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 5:51:11 AM

  • Yep, but name one country that has ever followed it?
by Ralph Unger 7/20/2011 5:57:04 AM

  • @Ralph, I would like to see just one country with nuclear power come up with a good plan for long term storage of spent fuel.
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 5:58:16 AM

  • They had plans, re-processing fuel, but the plutonium risks for bomb making put a halt to those plans. So the whole industry is not sustainable.
by Ralph Unger 7/20/2011 6:00:20 AM

  • @Ralph, exactly why it is neither cheap nor clean in the long run.
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 6:00:55 AM

  • Lets just wait until fusion is workable and skip this silly fission stage.
by Ralph Unger 7/20/2011 6:01:54 AM

  • I wish I had a good answer. We all consume power. Oregon is making serious strides with solar, wind, and geothermal. But they have been taking out the dams for hydro.
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 6:02:59 AM

  • Which produces more greenhouse gasses, hydro or coal? Oddly enough, hydro because of the rot from the water and such produces more greenhouse gas ( Methane which is a powerful one) gas then coal.
by Ralph Unger 7/20/2011 6:05:13 AM

  • Hydro impedes the migration of salmon and steelhead so they are breaking up the dams on our river. They have taken out 2 so far this year.
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 6:07:46 AM

  • Wind kills birds. Solar? It adds to local heating by adsorbing more sunlight then the soil would. Ya just can't win except by using less.
by Ralph Unger 7/20/2011 6:08:24 AM

  • Agreed. The real life impact of that is daunting but can be done.
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 6:09:34 AM

  • I ride a bike mostly and my thermostat is set at 80 degrees. In Houston that is kinda brutal, but I also save money.
by Ralph Unger 7/20/2011 6:11:16 AM

  • I only have to get gas every 2 weeks. I keep my thermostat at 78, I don't like air conditioning anyway because it makes me cold.
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 6:13:54 AM

  • Most importantly, I work less then 1 mile from where I live.
by Ralph Unger 7/20/2011 6:14:10 AM

  • Nice, my work is about 5 miles and I'm too lazy to ride that far. I have been looking at those cute scooters though. It would work in the nice weather, but not winter and spring. It's just too wet here.
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 6:15:16 AM

  • Gotta go for the night, work comes early.
    by Lurking 7/20/2011 6:17:26 AM

  • I made a few nice bikes that are electric or gas powered that would do fine for 5 miles, if the weather is good. I can send the links to part suppliers.
by Ralph Unger 7/20/2011 6:23:43 AM

  • Bump

    by Diane_NJ 7/20/2011 9:39:54 AM

  • @Diane_NJ I have not had my coffee I knew something was wrong remedial action being taken
    by elainekirk 7/20/2011 9:42:20 AM

  • @elainekirk, haha - "remedial action" - enjoy! Just sipping mine now. Looked outside - all is so peaceful, moon is above, birds tweeting.
    by Diane_NJ 7/20/2011 9:48:20 AM

  • @Diane_NJ we have wind of the bit brisk for washday variety
    by elainekirk 7/20/2011 10:06:34 AM

  • @elainekirk No wind here at all. I was at the Jersey Shore on the weekend and enjoying the breeze. Was playing there with my little grandsons and stopped for a moment and asked them "What do we have here that's invisible, but so wonderful right now?" They didn't hesitate (they've heard me say it so often) - "the breeze!"
    by Diane_NJ 7/20/2011 10:13:50 AM

  • @All Hi, around for just a bit...hope everyone is good!:-) Fukushima has had some very heavy rain and light wind from Ma-on, the tops are.... 72hr precipitation, 219.5mm @ ONAHAMA station, Iwaki-shi, Fukushima, very heavy currently @ Soma station, soma-shi, Fukushima, 3hr precipitation of 47mm @ 0700UTC. Max wind of 7m/s @ KOORIYAMA station. This( agora.ex.nii.ac.jp ) is the link I use to drain such information if anyone wanted to know.... :-) Ma-on will no doubt continue it's journey back out to sea, will reintensify slightly south east of Tokyo before undergoing Extratropical transition moving north easterly towards the aleutian island chain. JTWC and most models agree on this scenario playing out. Ok, it will make me go crazy but I have to go finish my tax return.....@All....Stay well everyone.:-)
