by elainekirk 9/29/2011 11:42:08 PM

ty elaine... I need one after today... what's been going on?
by dean 9/29/2011 11:42:47 PM

@Ian and that the just effictively cool down the thermometers of the empty rpv. yes.
by Edano 9/29/2011 11:45:56 PM

@ Edano. do they publish the same temp in #4 only just not shown
by dean 9/29/2011 11:49:19 PM

@dean no.
by Edano 9/29/2011 11:49:50 PM

@ Edano, at the presentation I asked the professor, can you shed light on explosions in 3 and 4
by dean 9/29/2011 11:50:50 PM

I could tell from his answer that he wasn't prepared for the details of those explosions.. he said.. the explosions were caused by hydrogen and I said.. so that means the hydrogen for #4 was produced by the spent fuel pool?
by dean 9/29/2011 11:54:21 PM

I mentioned that the #4 reactor had no fuel.. he paused.. and said. well, they did show video's of the SFP in 4 and it looked like the fuel was ok... after the meeting I talked to him and he said.. you threw me a curve on that one.. I said.. well.. when you go to Japan tomorrow perhaps you will be able to dig deeper and find out how it happened... I exchanged business cards with him and will send him mails tomorrow or the weekend..
by dean 9/29/2011 11:56:10 PM

@dean you earned your coffee with that one
by elainekirk 9/29/2011 11:57:05 PM

@dean a prof from japan ?
by Edano 9/29/2011 11:57:21 PM

@ Edano heis a japanese Phd Professor from university of idaho in nuclear engineering and mechanical engineering, he was born in Japan but came to the US with his parents. He has some good credentials and was going to japan for meetings there, he had worked at the japanese research institute for some 5 years..
by dean 9/29/2011 11:59:13 PM

ty Elaine.... mmmmm
by dean 9/29/2011 11:59:32 PM

i hope he gets a good answer apart from that pipng shortcut theory.
by Edano 9/30/2011 12:01:19 AM

yes as do I @ Edano
by dean 9/30/2011 12:15:10 AM

ty Ian, I think he really want's to know more and that was one of the reasons that prompted him to accept the offer to go over. I will send an email and add a few thoughts on things he hopefully may shed light on..
by dean 9/30/2011 12:25:37 AM

@Dean, the cold shutdown phrase is being pushed by the media really hard. Since the fuel isn't in the RPV and TEPCO doesn't know where it is what would you call it rather than cold shutdown?
by lillymunster 9/30/2011 12:59:15 AM

@skibboy that might break the thermometers and besides that tepco thermometers only read up to ND
by elainekirk 9/30/2011 1:06:20 AM

@skibboy LOL.
by lillymunster 9/30/2011 1:06:38 AM

that's good @ lilly..
by dean 9/30/2011 1:06:44 AM

lilly by the way.. i will look up one of the nrc releases to show you ..
by dean 9/30/2011 1:07:01 AM

@ lilly.. I would use terms for post severe accident.. like stable etc
by dean 9/30/2011 1:07:40 AM

and with releases ongoing
by dean 9/30/2011 1:08:13 AM

china syndrome is the right word.
by Edano 9/30/2011 1:08:15 AM

@ Edano... there ya go
by dean 9/30/2011 1:08:44 AM

@dean is chernobyl in "cold shutdown", or was it ever ?
by Edano 9/30/2011 1:09:08 AM

no @ Edano it invented new terms I think
by dean 9/30/2011 1:09:39 AM

@dean but chernobyl is also below 100° and on atmospheric pressure...
by Edano 9/30/2011 1:11:05 AM

@ Edano.. I'm not sure what you'd call chernobyl.. the abyss maybe
by dean 9/30/2011 1:18:54 AM

maybe.. Post Accident Unstable State
by dean 9/30/2011 1:31:40 AM

be back...
by dean 9/30/2011 1:31:48 AM
