  • @lillymunster you click on "via tepco" and voila. (not on "via", on "tepco")
    by Edano 9/29/2011 10:16:55 PM

  • Yes those show up. Looking at the one with the clear view of the pipe, more cracks below the big ugly one.
    by lillymunster 9/29/2011 10:17:33 PM

  • images.scribblelive.com @elainekirk @Edano, we probably can't rule out corrosion and rust causing the staining on the stack. It seems like I see similar reddish color and nicks or gashes on the support beams too, suggesting it's a feature of the general structure like rusting perhaps where an explosion's shrapnel inflicted gashes on the metal structure of the stack exposing the underlying metal that then rusted.

    by Edano 9/29/2011 10:20:02 PM

  • I think Ian may be correct. If you look at the rust on the outer beams they look like where the blast would have hit. Then there is also rust around cracks in the pipe. So anywhere the paint was compromised. I am more concerned about the cracks in the pipe. These towers may have some stress damage that hasn't been realized. What would happen in another big quake?
    by lillymunster 9/29/2011 10:23:06 PM

  • @Ian If you look higher up the stacks there is no obvious corrosion/markings even though the higher area is more exposed to the elements wind/rain/ice

  • and now hires of the toothstick sticking out of #3's sfp region. look how destroyed the panel is and what has been pushed out by the explosion.

    by Edano 9/29/2011 10:25:00 PM

  • @elainekirk yes it may be rust. but it is certainly due to damage by the #1 explosion.
I don't think it is rust or the majority isnt rust doesn't melt paint?

"....public radiation exposure by additional release is being significantly held down".
The plan appears to be for some ongoing releases to be considered acceptable.
    by Edano 9/29/2011 10:38:43 PM

  • @elainekirk, the 'gashes' and 'rust' seem clustered in a narrow region, which is indicative of the upper-deck blow-out panels hurled as we can see in the video on a tight bunch flying laterally. But the consistently of the reddish color around leaks around the reactor-well cap I still think is probably cesium-vapor residue. But perhaps the steam's moisture promotes rusting.
    by Ian 9/29/2011 10:39:16 PM

  • @Edano how dare they that is not their blummin air/ocean etc to pollute

  • @elainekirk the jaif accepts ongoing releases, but they don't ask the population.

  • here we are they have released many weeks worth of plant readings the ND's abound so tell me where is it all going the damn stuff doesnt just vanish if it isnt in the air/ocean/soil etc where the hell is it? www.tepco.co.jp

  • The toothpick looks like a roof girder or one of the long narrow aluminum panels used for roof covering.

    by Ian via 2.bp.blogspot 9/29/2011 10:44:38 PM

  • @elainekirk a good question, since they admit a daily release of 200,000,000 bequerels. 200,000,000 cannot be ND.
    by Edano 9/29/2011 10:44:46 PM

  • @Ian, or maybe a pipe, the toothpick looks straighter and more pole-like than most girders.
    by Ian 9/29/2011 10:46:13 PM

  • @Ian no, it's not from the roof. it comes out of the sfp region. much below the roof.
    by Edano 9/29/2011 10:46:21 PM

  • this must be the toothpic

    by Edano 9/29/2011 10:52:14 PM

    by Edano 9/29/2011 11:05:39 PM

  • @lillymunster that map is fiction tepco keep telling you there is no radioactive substance in the ocean
and as nobody has double checked tepco's readings for the 20km land zone and the waters around the plant then tepco have to be believed.....don't they?

  • @Edano, what about the longer pipe-like object just to the right of what you circled? That's what I'm seeing as the toothpick. Although the toothpick looks reddish, whereas the others we see in the overhead shot look silvery.

  • @Ian that's too long, isn't it ?
    by Edano 9/29/2011 11:32:19 PM

  • @Edano, it does seem longer. But the one you circled seems either shorter or something is covering it partially in the overhead. A tall crop of the original capturing all the visible height of 3 would help. I'm not where I can do photo cropping at the moment. Keep in mind that they may be mucking around with the upper deck debris and things are in different positions. That was seen on the south side wrt movements of the severed stack pipe.
