15-meter waves hit Fukushima
The operator of the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says the
facility was hit by a tsunami as high as 15 meters on March 11th.
Tokyo Electric Power Company was reporting on Saturday on its survey of highwater
marks left on the plant's buildings.
It says it found that the tsunami reached up to 15 meters on the ocean side of the

media.oregonlive.com images.scribblelive.com #3. please take a look at the round concrete cylinder at the top / top right of the images. and look at the damage of the surrounding two buildings. i believe the cylinder is the drywell "neck" which came down after the explosion. what do you think ? and another thing: john is right. the reactor buildings are not square, they are rectangular. all 4. which means the vessel is not in the center, more towards the turbine buildings.

@spanish_reader I checked TEPCO's Press Upates but they are released only at 3 to 7 day intervals, yet there is a Press Conference at least 2X a day if not more. Very little news is being released at the present time. There is little to NO news in the US about Japan.

The other oddity on their reporting is that even in Japanese it looks like they now aren't releasing afternoon data -- just 2 sets, early morning and noon. "Nothing to see here, move along."

@Rob in SF Someone informed me that the Russian Army "disposed" of all animals that remained alive after Chernobyl. It's a painful realization but what can you do with animals that are radiated and starving?

@sims It may or may not be broke.. CAMS can read over 100seiverts so they may not want a panic if it reads way higher than that.

@ColorMeRed Apparently there are still many instances of dealing with wild boars as radioactive waste... "Thousands of wild boars killed in southern Germany every year register unacceptable levels of radiation. It’s calculated in becquerels, a measurement of radiation given off. Anything beyond 600 becquerels per kilogram isn’t recommended, according to Germany’s Federal Office for Radiation Protection." www.washingtonpost.com

The building also has lead-covered windows to protect against radiation.

The building is the only place on the Fukushima plant premises where workers can take off their radiation protective clothing.

www.archnewsnow.com Recovery panel to include govs, architect "Architect Tadao Ando and scriptwriter Makiko Uchidate will be among the members of a government panel that will draft recovery programs for areas devastated by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, it has been learned.

According to government sources, Prime Minister Naoto Kan also has decided to appoint the governors of Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima prefectures--the three most severely damaged by the disaster--to ensure voices from the private sector and disaster areas are heard.

Kan is personally selecting members of the recovery initiative commission, which is to be launched Monday, one month after the disaster." (I LOVE Ando.)
