It is going to let go. You can forget about ‘repairing’ or ‘decommissioning’ those reactors. You can forget about that entire area, and maybe Tokyo as well. Or you can sit and stare at the news in disbelief when it happens." If this is indeed what GoJ is hiding then it's doign a great job... Noone wants panic over some event that might or might not happen. No?

@all I have noticed the crane in some of the day shots and not in others. Might be worth watching. Can they or would they move it that much hour by hour. Remember BP was caught faking video footage of the leaks underwater by replaying old footage.

@Edano We used to sit on the island in British Columbia and watch all the jet traffic overhead. The three days after 9/11 were almost eerie, because their were none, and no noise, and no contrails, and suddenly the pervasive marine haze was gone, for three days. Then I heard the sound of a jet, saw the contrail, watched it feather out, then another. By the time there were 8 contrails, the sky was cast over with marine haze again.

Chile is on tomorrow, 15th. Interesting, global incident is not all that "instant". I have been accumulating data thru the day, and each time find more that were earlier than my last mark, will see what happens to Alaska

I put together a page that details some of the questions and ongoing commentary, confusion etc. involving the location of reactor wells on reactor 3 and 4. If someone could pin it up top please? It should help answer some of the questions about thinking the reactor well was right against the outer walls.

@radioguy The Chili eq was bad, and after the big one, that were besieged by aftershocks for months. It surprises me that Japan does not have more "smaller" aftershocks.

"I believe fuel rods in the pool are largely intact, or still keeping the normal shape of what they should look like," Nishiyama said. "If they were totally messed up, we would have been looking at different sets of numbers from the water sampling."
A new burst of radiation this week leaking in Unit 4's fuel pool suggests damage to the fuel rods and complicates efforts to stabilize them, officials said. TEPCO manager Junichi Matsumoto said analysis of the pool's water detected higher levels of radioactive iodine-131, cesium-134 and cesium-137. Normally, those elements would not be found in the pool.
Three of the plant's reactors also have about 20,000 metric tons of stagnant, radiation-contaminated water and it is proving difficult to reduce the amount spilling from the reactors, Nishiyama said.

This blurb is a bit ominous...

"It is the problem of being stuck with reactors that constantly need to be fed water," Nishiyama said. Setbacks in preparing tanks to store the contaminated water mean new options may need to be considered, he said. He did not elaborate.

SRS equipment headed to Japan
Storage tanks, pumps and monitoring equipment from Savannah River Site will be shipped from South Carolina to Japan to help in the battle to stabilize the damaged nuclear reactors at Fukushima.

The primary items from SRS, identified by its management contractor, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, include a "radioactive liquid transport assembly," a high-tech, self-contained, trailer housing a 1,000 gallon tank, pumps and a monitoring system.
A smaller trailer that goes with it includes fuel tanks and a diesel generator.

Also being sent are five storage tanks, each with a 16,000-gallon capacity. They can be used to store radioactive water-one of the primary contaminants at the Japan site.

@janelle they (usa govt) have to cut the budget and they were paying for these families to live someplace else. My best guess is the money didn't warrant the cost of their lives.
