  • @Ian ignore them if you are mad enough blow a whisltle down the phone otherwise just pick up , stay silent, then put phone down when they speak
    by elainekirk 8/27/2011 9:58:52 PM

  • Can anyone read this? blog.livedoor.jp It looks interesting.
    by Cat 8/27/2011 10:26:36 PM

  • @Cat that is a very good blog one of the groups friends contributes and they promote the pin badges that my profile shows. I am afraid I find it very difficult to read even with google translate
    by elainekirk 8/27/2011 10:30:45 PM

  • Will post the call unlisted soon. Now I realize it's like I'm being 'trolled' and perhaps the better response in not responding, not allowing this to affect my public output. And these incident could be unrelated. I've never been harassed before, so it's odd the sudden confluence of incidents.
    by Ian 8/27/2011 10:31:53 PM

  • @elainekirk. we really need more fluent japanese speakers on the blog. What happened to the NHK documentary by the nuclear scientist? Did anyone save it?
    by Cat 8/27/2011 10:35:53 PM

  • @Ian it will have one source at the moment that source is controlling you, turn that around and you take control, put down the phone , whistle down the phone , just leave the phone on the side and remain silent , get a retractable pen with a good 'click action' and sit clicking the pen....there is so much you can do to take over and wrong foot them but the key is absolutely no verbal communication just pick up phone remain silent if they speak and you recognise the voice then remain silent and do one of the above
    by elainekirk 8/27/2011 10:36:00 PM

  • @Cat we have at least two now but they are working . However they are quite happy to translate for us when we need anything translated

  • @lillymunster which was i the smile and be saved?
    by elainekirk 8/27/2011 10:40:30 PM

  • @elainekirk ?
    by lillymunster 8/27/2011 10:43:39 PM

  • Cat, let me know what things are creating the big problems as far as language. That might help determine another thing we could do to get around said issues. We had a suggestion from some of the JP readers to take US or English Language documents that are important like radiation exposure studies and translate them into Japanese. The current plan is to make a sister site to the main group site that would have JP navigation and house just these papers in Japanese so people can share them with others that don't have bilingual skills easier. Some of the bilingual crew has been translating our tweets and encouraging people to use our website by telling them how to use the on site translation options.

I am shooting for upgrading our site over the labor day weekend to an inproved look that will keep more articles on the home page and in categories.

  • @lillymunster yeah my mistake cat put up a link saying it looked interesting and I just saw the 'livedoor' and thought tetu then realised I had probably goofed ... which is not unusual....Elaine quietly trots off in the direction of the kettle....

    by elainekirk 8/27/2011 11:49:51 PM

  • @lillymunster you seen this one ? www.nrc.gov
    by elainekirk 8/27/2011 11:53:13 PM

  • @Ian You should certainly send that recording to UPS! I think your caller was trying to diguise his voice so it's hard to tell re the accent - any tell-tale Japanese mispronunciations, for example of 'R's and 'L's, aren't clear enough to me to be conclusive.
    by es 8/27/2011 11:59:51 PM

  • @lillymunster "lighting the charcoal fire for the barbecue with old NRC printouts of reactor inspections. :-)"
Careful. Those tasked to surveillance on your home are going to think this is something far more insidious.
by Rob in SF 8/28/2011 12:06:23 AM

  • @Edano & es, it also sounds like some voice-affecting influence might be involved. It might seem like a Nigerian type scam, but he didn't fish for my address or credit card. And would a financial scammer call someone back 8 times after the recipient called them a liar? Logical money-making protocol would be to move on as soon as a potential client is a lost cause. This was just harassment!
    by Ian 8/28/2011 12:08:09 AM

  • @Rob in SF Heh... funny man :)
    by RadioGuy 8/28/2011 12:08:39 AM

  • @es, actually, L's and R's are exactly what's missing, listen to the past pointed at : www.youtube.com
    by Ian 8/28/2011 12:13:13 AM

  • @Ian Yes, I definitely heard the stumbles and hesitations. The first time he mentions Las Vagas, for example. The 'beligerent' bits sound drunk though!
    by es 8/28/2011 12:17:16 AM

  • @es yes, sounded drunk to me.
