  • @ikrockhopper so you just need to be able to say
this is what we have/been given---
    this is what we need/want---
    no beating about the bush
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:09:23 AM

  • @elainekirk Probably... But, @Peter Melzer is right. We are already in the battle, not discussion, these "facts and lies" cannot be convincing to the other side.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:11:22 AM

  • @ikrockhopper , people should insist that the levels must be brought down to what they were before the accident.
by Peter Melzer 8/28/2011 1:11:47 AM

  • @Peter Melzer Even if it's impossible?
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:12:56 AM

  • @Peter Melzer Gov failed to evacuate people from the larger Fukushima area, and Fukushima pref doesnt want to lose their tax money. So, they won't bring it down. They are saying it, but wont.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:13:52 AM

  • They have to compensate the farmers give them land elsewhere and import good food
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:14:05 AM

  • Yes, that should be the demand. Level must be reduced, not limits increased.
by Peter Melzer 8/28/2011 1:14:12 AM

  • Plus, now, Fukushima people (within 20km) are angry at gov/Fukushima pref because gov finally decleared they wouldnt be able to go back home for decades. You saw this in Chernobyl, too.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:15:06 AM

  • along with everything else you all need hope, there is a big need for emotional boost
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:16:34 AM

  • @ikrockhopper how often are prefecture 'governments' elected
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:17:22 AM

  • @elainekirk @Peter Melzer To reduce the levels in Fukushima and other hotspots, they need to decide where they bring the contaminated stuff. Fukushima pref doesnt want to have the sites in the pref. But, other prefs didn't want to take it. How to reduce the level. That is the big issue.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:17:27 AM

  • @elainekirk every four years, I believe.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:17:52 AM

  • @ikrockhopper , first you must take stock, that is get a precise idea of where the hot spots are. If I lived in Fukushima, I'd take my geiger, check out my neighborhood and put signs where the hottest spots are. Then I would discuss with the mayor what can be done as mitigation. Activism is healthier than complacency.
by Peter Melzer 8/28/2011 1:19:14 AM

  • @ikrockhopper what are planning laws like how much can people do by their own choice
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:19:33 AM

  • @ikrockhopper it is not 100% assured that some of the decontamination will work in every area. Plus the plants are still spewing but much less. If they decontaminate and remove the soil what do the do if the levels come back up in six months?
Peter's statement that people should demand to be made whole and have their home, business or community back at pre disaster levels or be compensated and given somewhere else to live that is safe.
    by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:19:44 AM

  • @Peter Melzer that is an awesome idea akatsubu posters at every hotspot
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:20:29 AM

  • @ikrockhopper , I would insist tepco accepts the radioactive waste for treatment.
by Peter Melzer 8/28/2011 1:21:10 AM

  • @Peter Melzer Fukushima residents do. They dont trust local office any more. So, they are working on it by themselves. You may not want to know how many people have geigers even in Tokyo. lots and lots and lots. This is a reason I tweet I really want people outside to know that MANY JPs ARE WORKING!
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:21:45 AM

  • We are not sitting and quiet to be killed!
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:22:24 AM

  • @ikrockhopper we know we see the maps and the safecast
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:22:45 AM

  • This is so frustrating. If more JPs can write and read English, they will speak out and communicate with all of you. It would be a huge help.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:23:11 AM

  • @ikrockhopper yes we must work hard at communicating
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:23:40 AM

  • And, JP gov and TEPCO couldnt have done all the stupid things because the world is watching.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:23:51 AM

  • JP gov and TEPCO knew that not so many people in the world understand JP language.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:24:11 AM

  • @ikrockhopper wYES you have it in one there !!
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:24:33 AM

  • the communication ticket has been played to advantage of tepco/gov
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:25:12 AM

  • @ikrockhopper , it is important to join in working with municipal governments to address contamination. After all they want that their populace returns.
by Peter Melzer 8/28/2011 1:25:24 AM

  • is there the trust why would the people trust them I think if I were there I wouldnt trust them
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:27:02 AM

  • @Peter Melzer Many Fukushma residents start returning to their home because they believe the place is safe. Is this right thing to believe? It depends on people's wish and value, not scientific facts.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:27:20 AM

  • in a tweet, Fukushima mom said 'oh, it's 0.7microSv. so, my kid can play outside." Tokyo residents felt horrible with this. Can you accuse this mom of ignorance? No. people manipulate their belief because of their wish.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:29:13 AM

  • @ikrockhopper no agency has sat and listened have they? they have expected people to listen to them
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:29:29 AM

  • I think many are confused or find it easier to stick they head in the sand. It is a human behavior.
    by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:30:16 AM

  • @elainekirk If they listened to residents, how could this all distrust emerged in the first place?
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:30:25 AM

  • @lillymunster exactly.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:30:39 AM

  • I said they dont listen to the people ,
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:32:12 AM

  • @elainekirk yes, they dont...
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:32:36 AM

  • are all the swimming pools outdoors at schools?
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:32:53 AM

  • @elainekirk I know. I was just sarcastic.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:33:11 AM

  • would the people all come together to demand covers ?
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:33:37 AM

  • @elainekirk Some swimming pools in Kanagawa stop use, due to high radiation around it. Fukushima? no pool this summer.
    by ikrockhopper 8/28/2011 1:33:56 AM

  • I am trying to think of a single aim that people would come together to fight for
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:34:14 AM

  • because when they win that fight the motivation is there for the next one
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:34:49 AM

  • it grows
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:34:55 AM

  • an achievable aim that is common to all and quickly realised
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 1:35:28 AM

  • @elainekirk We (not me! others in denial) need to see 'consequences.' Anything is OK. Like, a case of clear thyroid cancer among Fukushima kids, or deformity of newborns. JPs need to get shocked. really.
