  • he is not keeping his finger still.... watch it again he is guiding something I reckon ...do I want a coffee
    by elainekirk 8/28/2011 2:58:18 AM

  • it appears to me that he reads something from a paper (?) in his left hand. maybe he wants to tell us the truth, but doesn't know there is no micro... :(
    by Edano 8/28/2011 2:58:49 AM

  • @Edano Exactly.
    by estacion 8/28/2011 2:59:33 AM

  • @Edano , so interesting! Looks like he is writing what he reads from a piece of paper in the air. The weirdest behavior. I wonder whether one could not retrace his finger movements with some clever software.
by Peter Melzer 8/28/2011 3:02:26 AM

  • Perhaps his aim was to point at the exact center of the camera shot, for whatever reason. Maybe it's a timer in his left hand?
    by es 8/28/2011 3:02:50 AM

  • maybe lily gets some close ups ?
    by Edano 8/28/2011 3:03:31 AM

  • Put it on full screen. The thing in his hand was a white device with a touchscreen on the side facing him. When he is out further he could have actually been doing something, reading the device, pointing. The last bit was pure silliness, he pointed into the camera and looked in it. :-)
    by lillymunster 8/28/2011 3:03:47 AM

  • @Edano I can do that. :-)
    by lillymunster 8/28/2011 3:03:57 AM

by Peter Melzer 8/28/2011 3:11:04 AM

  • Have some images, will have them up here in a sec. I think he is using an electronic tool of some sort and guiding something. The area behind the camera is up the hill behind the reactors. 5-6 are fairly far away with some administration and service buildings between the two. The camera is in front of the quake proof building so maybe they were doing something on top of that building or behind it?

  • If people want bigger versions I can upload them to the web server. Let me know
    by lillymunster 8/28/2011 3:24:55 AM

  • Thanks @lilly. I still think he was pointing at the camera itself, taking some sort of measurement. Perhaps the device in his hand shows him the live camera feed with some sort of grid superimposed on it, so he can aim accurately at a designated point on the camera screen? But it's past my bedtime. G'night @all.
    by es 8/28/2011 3:27:03 AM

  • Has anyone heard from Ian?
    by Panserbjorne9 8/28/2011 3:31:33 AM

  • The device almost looked like a white PSP since it had a sideways orientation. So a video feed device might make sense. We also know they have some wireless feeds on site. IIRC they had some sort of sensor and camera usage near some of the reactors.

    by Panserbjorne9 8/28/2011 3:41:57 AM

  • It is a bit creepy. If these things are connected whomever is doing it is pretty amateur in how they went about it.

  • It is almost midnight east coast. The storm is rolling through. So they could be asleep or without power.
    by lillymunster 8/28/2011 3:49:32 AM

  • It's in Japanese, but the translated title and description read:

No. 4 or explosion due to the influx of hydrogen Unit 3.
Explosion occurred on March 15 at Unit 4, Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, Tokyo Electric Power, a new survey reveals that raised the possibility of hydrogen explosion flowed from Unit 3.

I must go get some sleep, I am getting loopy...or loopier.
    by lillymunster 8/28/2011 4:25:02 AM

  • Night lilly. Irene seems a bit of a washout so far here, lol. Just steady rain and few gusts of wind.

    by Ian 8/28/2011 4:45:17 AM

  • @Ian good. That was ridiculous. And nervewracking, I'm sure.

  • exSKF: Another #Radioactive Rice from Chiba, 46 Becquerels/Kg
The rice has been cleared for shipping, because the level of radioactive cesium is much below the national provisional safety limit of 500 becquerels/kg which will pose no threat to health, according to the authorities in Chiba.

It's "Koshihikari" brand rice, but since it's not from Niigata the rice may be blended and sold. If it's blended, there is no requirement to state where the rice was harvested.

Caveat emptor, except the buyers don't have all information available to them to decide on their own

  • Logic and Progress starts to poke its head up "Ministry to provide radiation levels at schools online 24/7" www.asahi.com The only problem is that Single spot readings can be used to give a false sense of security. Rad levels will differ greatly over small areas, however this "official" reading will give a level independent investigaters and readers can compare their own readings to.
