Calvert Cliff unit 1 reactor, based in Maryland, shut down automatically after aluminium debris hit a transformer.
by elainekirk 8/28/2011 9:29:52 AM

@es if they are saying that they will evacuate immediately in future then they know the delay at fuku caused harm? but still the farcical denials go on
by elainekirk 8/28/2011 10:08:39 AM

@es the thing is tepco didn't say there was a problem so there still isnt any point where the automatic evac kicks inn is there?
by elainekirk 8/28/2011 10:23:24 AM

@es yes that is what I meant , tepco didnt tell nisa the extent of the possible damage so would they have met the criteria for evac based ...actually it is a load of codswallop until they decide what criteria and ensure the power comps actually tell them when that criteria has in their opinion been mer

Calvert Cliffs ?
by Edano 8/28/2011 11:07:50 AM

@Edano Yep, just reading that it went offline. A nuclear power reactor in Calvert Cliffs, Maryland, automatically went offline late Saturday after a piece of aluminum siding from a building struck a transformer amid strong winds.

greetings to all

Hi Dean!
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 12:58:12 PM

missed you all,, I had a bicycle event and was poooped out so had to rest, any new news @ lillly
by dean 8/28/2011 1:00:31 PM

@dean We came across a JP report from March that was grossly inaccurate in the instructions it gave people on protective iodine and likely caused many to not take iodine that were exposed.
TEPCO released some readings they say show #3 created the explosion at 4.
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:02:22 PM

@ lilly, thanks to so many here we are able to call out the inaccuracy in JP reports and keep the people informed...I feel good about that
by dean 8/28/2011 1:04:26 PM

The evacuations and cleanups are really coming to a head. People are finally questioning the ability to do this.
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:04:38 PM

on the #4 explosion, we should collectively give our take on things and see how the results work out
by dean 8/28/2011 1:05:08 PM

@dean we used the FDA report to contrast and show the flaws. Rockhopper suggested we put some easy to read facts sheets together in JP. We have a couple new bilingual volunteers to help.
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:05:57 PM

I is a monumental task no doubt
by dean 8/28/2011 1:06:11 PM

good idea @ lilly, maybe there are some sort of internet cafe areas or places like starbucks where they could be posted. In fukushima maybe even the news paper as an insert
by dean 8/28/2011 1:07:18 PM

@dean The issues around 4 have always been strange. Ex-SKF mentioned the odd initial reporting and pointed out that there was a report of a few panels blown out before the larger explosion. The initial reports say nothing about the explosion and nobody has a video because it happened at night.
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:08:03 PM

The governor of Fukushima may be very receptive, and maybe BO could do a spot and let people know that one is available for free from the web site .
by dean 8/28/2011 1:08:07 PM

@dean great idea! Rockhopper knows some people who are doing on the ground work in JP. Those people have been using the red pebbly art to help educate. They would be a good resource to ask to distribute something or at least a way to direct people to the site.
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:09:19 PM

@ lilly there is a video confirming that status of the #4 after the #3 explosion to serve as a base point
by dean 8/28/2011 1:09:40 PM

@dean You mean the one that shows it mostly intact minus the 2 panels?
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:10:10 PM

Something Ex-SKF pointed out was that the levels of radiation in #4's vent cleaning systems had low levels of radiation. TEPCO claims this is because the hydrogen came out the wet well into #4's vent system.
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:11:42 PM

right @ lilly, the one with the intact adjacent wall on #4, one time they thought the big side panel on #4 was caused by debris from #3 explosion
by dean 8/28/2011 1:13:02 PM

@dean I think I have photos from that. Ian might know where a video is if we need it. He has been getting some major harassment. He had his fukushima videos taken down off youtube, someone tried hacking his website and he was getting weird phone calls over the weekend.
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:15:53 PM

This is Ex-SKF's thoughts on #4
ex-skf.blogspot.comby lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:17:19 PM

In retrospect on #4, we thought something showed up on the infrared to indicate some heat trace in the reactor as well as in the canal, all reports were that the fuel had all been discharged to the canal, we've seen one video in the #4 pool at one spot in the pool, (I wonder where the fresh fuel is immediately discharged and was it in close proximity to that video taped area?), next is all the data since then. Assuming the fuel was all out then the focus is centered on the cooling system for the SFP and the impacts of the EQ on those systems as well as the loss of power and DG's..
by dean 8/28/2011 1:17:32 PM

sad to hear @lilly, I hope he's defense in depth for hacking on his computer system and reports things. Perhaps there is technology that would push the hacking attempt back to the originators computer. Years ago I thought I heard of some program called ECHO that was supposedly did that but I'm not an expertin that area.
by dean 8/28/2011 1:19:58 PM

@dean His hosting service caught it and reported it to him. He didn't have any actual break in or damage to his site. The takedown requests at YouTube were from Fukushima Central TV or at least they claimed to be.
by lillymunster 8/28/2011 1:22:43 PM

@ lilly the key operative word on that report is "POSSIBILITY or POSSIBLE" it
would be interesting to see if there are back flow preventors in the ducting
